U.R.B.A.N. Ministries

urban_ministries1Dwayne Dokes is currently an urban missionary, pastor, and founder of U.R.B.A.N. Ministries. U.R.B.A.N. stands for United to Reach and Bless Afflicted Neighborhoods. This ministry was starte d in Southern California in 2003 and was moved to inner city of Denver in June of 2005. Calvary Chapel Murrieta, in California, sent out Dwayne and his wife, Aimee to serve in Denver, Colorado.

Pastor Dwayne grew up in Southern California as a fatherless child. He clung to the streets as his father figure. Gang violence and drugs were on the rise and this was attractive to this lost young man. Seeing his friends die and go to prison were just normal events in his life. He always thought that by the age of 30 he would either be dead or in prison. It was not until the age of 18 that he heard the gospel message for the first time. After attending a church retreat and seeing the love of God for the first time his heart was starting to soften. For years there were many friends and family members that had been praying for him. On August 26, 1995 while sitting in his car the Living God came into his heart, which was full of hate, anger, and pain.

At this time God asked him a question: "Serve man or me? I will use your life for my GLORY!" At the age of 30 God blessed Dwayne with his wife, Aimee. Such a different contrast from where he thought he was going to be at this age! Dwayne has been married for 10 years now and has four wonderful children: Moses, 7, Ezekiel, 5, Trinity, 4, and Titus, 1. He has attended Calvary Chapel Bible College, a school of evangelism at Calvary Chapel South Bay, and was an intern at Calvary Chapel Murrieta. Currently Dwayne is a police Chaplin for the Denver Police Department and serves along side a ministry in the prisons. Once a week he picks up youth boys in the neighborhood for a weekly bible study, BNO, Boys Night Out. This is just one of the opportunities where he gets to reach out to young boys who are like he was, lost with no hope. Working with the youth Dwayne is reminded of the call on his life to show children the hope and love of Jesus Christ.

The Vision for U.R.B.A.N. Ministries

But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, "Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God" Mark 10:14 ...to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.' Act 26:18 Our calling is that we would be an outpost of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Christ said "Bring the child to me", that their hearts would be reconciled to the Father. Our desire is to plant seeds of hope in the hearts of the inner city youth. As Ecclesiastes 12:1 says "Remember the creator in the days of your Youth". Our prayer is that God would use us to be a bridge to His Son Jesus Christ. Sparrow Nest Bible Study Every Saturday 4-6:30 Psalm 84:3 "Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God".
